America’s women fought for the right to vote for decades. In spite of overt racism and corruption, on August 18, 1920. Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th amendment, thus ensuring the right to vote could not be denied based upon sex. Cities across the U.S. rang bells in celebration. Nashville did not. We need your help to break the historic silence. At noon on August 18, bells will ring out all over Nashville. Belmont’s Carillon will be ringing, and we encourage you to pause to honor this moment in history and ring a bell from your location (download the Ringing Bell app).
